Advances in Tracer Methodology: Volume 1 by F. Marott Sinex (auth.), Seymour Rothchild (eds.)

By F. Marott Sinex (auth.), Seymour Rothchild (eds.)

The 5 Symposia on Advances in Tracer method have been held every year from 1957 to 1961. The symposia have been directed to scientists who're lively in using tracer strategies to assist resolve their medical difficulties. The structure, a casual one-day assembly inclusive of approximately ten papers and shutting with a cocktail hour, fostered an energetic trade of data between audio system and viewers. even if the 1st symposia have been constrained to using tritium as a tracer isotope, the bigger objective of the conferences used to be to disseminate info in relation to the full isotopic tracer box. The sponsoring firms, all actively engaged in promoting items within the nuclear box, tried to supply a noncom mercialized discussion board which might facilitate this alternate of in formation. the gathering of papers offered herein represents many of the talks awarded on the first symposia plus a number of acceptable papers that have seemed both in Atomlight, the bulletin of the hot England Nuclear Corp., or which were submitted without delay for inclusion during this assortment. even if all the authors was once given the chance to revise his paper, it's most likely that a few of the thoughts or instrumentation defined may well have already got been outdated via fresh improvements.

Gross LaRabida-University of Chicago Institute and the Departments of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Pediatrics University of Chicago Several years ago it became apparent that uridine nucleotides containing various carbohydrate moieties were the probable precursors of polysaccharides. This observation followed largely from the initial work of Leloir and his collaborators [1] and of Park [2]. Work by Cifonelli and Dorfman [3] showed that Group A streptococci contain UDP-glucuronic acid (UDPGA) , UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDPAG), and UDP-N-acetylmuramic acid.

However, for most applications it would be desirable to prevent the addition of tritium to unsaturated systems. Preliminary work on the radiation-induced addition of tritium to carbon-carbon double bonds under the conditions of the Wilzbach method has shown that varying amounts of addition and substitution of tritium take place with different types of olefinic systems [1, 2]. The processes involved in labeling organic compounds by exposure to tritium gas are still only partly understood. For example, Riesz and Wilzbach postulate that the reactions largely responsible for labeling must occur between ionized or excited organic molecules and tritium [3].
